Barista - Cafe Simulator is a long term project which has spanned from 2014 onwards. I began work on this game on my own as a passion project and slowly began to introduce more people as development continued.

In 2015 I entered the game into the BAFTA Young Games Designers competition where I was eventually invited to the finals in the London BAFTA headquaters and walked away with 2nd place in the country!

In early 2016 I returned back to solo development of the project in my free time and completed a complete overhaul of the game bringing it to a newer more up-to-date engine and rewriting the entirety of the codebase into C#. This update was named Barista - Redux. As of 2018, intermittent development continues in between development of multiple other long term projects I have, but for now, Barista is not my priority.

Current State of the game (2018-19):

  • Fully procedural AI system featuring dynamic mood states and potential behaviors
  • Shop rating and subsequent store popularity
  • Store inventory management, as well as the means to order in more supplies from the in-game internet market know as Bean
  • Store cleanliness and maintenance. The player must keep the store tidy, and keep an eye on the state of the customer restrooms to ensure the customers stay happy.
  • Simulated toilets! (They can become blocked so be careful what you flush!)
  • Simulated day/night system.
  • Store robberies (Felony and Frappucinos update). The player's store security rating determines the chance that armed robbers come into the store. This frightens away customers and loses your store reputation. The player must take money from the till and put it in the bag before the robber starts damaging the store's equipment.
  • Player-owned Apartments! (Condo update)
  • The player can retire to their condo at the end of the working day after closing shop, here they can play darts or watch TV using the integrated world-space YouTube streaming system!
  • Manage stock deliveries, when the goods deliveries arrive, the player must help unload from the lorry and restock the fridge and coffee machine.
  • Pests and other maintenance features are a current work in progress
